Neil Clemans began his career in photojournalism after graduating from the University of Southern California. He worked as a photographer at the Los Angeles Mirror from October 1948 until January 1962, and in 1961 was named chief photographer. In 2001, he received a lifetime achievement award from the Los Angeles Press Photographers’ Association in recognition of his pioneering photographic professionalism and advancement of news photography. Clemans was inductted into the NBC Press Hall of Fame. His book, Marooned in Darfur, is part of the Library of Congress Veterans History Project.
